Awards replaced for distinguished veteran

On behalf of Maj. Gen. Augustus L. Collins, the Adjutant General of the State of Mississippi, representatives from Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center presented a Gulf Coast veteran with replacements for his medals and certificates that were lost during Hurricane Katrina.

Col. William “Brad” Smith, CSJFTC installation commander, presented the awards to 94-year-old retired Capt. William Joel Blass, a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, during a ceremony in Blass’s Pass Christian home on April 6.

“It’s an absolute honor to be able to do this,” said Smith, as he presented the awards and certificates to Blass.
