Dr. Elliot Nipper Discusses Advances in Hip Replacement Technology as Part of Ongoing Educational Se

Dr. Elliot Nipper, and Orthopedic Surgeon with Southern Bone and Joint, will lead a discussion on the advancements in hip technology at the Senior Circle Lunch and Learn program on July 19 at 11 a.m. in the Glenn Smith Room at Wesley Medical Center.

The seminar is part of an ongoing monthly series, featuring local physicians discussing a variety of health and wellness topics. Dr. Nipper is a fellowship-trained arthritic joint replacement orthopedic surgeon. He will speak about issues regarding hip surgery and answer common questions on the subject.

Ninety-one year old Laurel resident finally receives WWII medals

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM)- A ninety-one year old Laurel resident was honored Saturday morning for being part of World War II.

The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum located at Camp Shelby presented Private First Class James B. Jones with seven different awards.

Jones is a World War II veteran and a member of the 761st Tank Battalion, the first African-American tank unit to fight in combat. He had never received his service medals, but on Saturday Camp Shelby, the museum, and Congressman Steven Palazzo awarded him with all his decorations.

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- Government ordered budget cuts are taking their toll on Camp Shelby south of Hattiesburg.

Since 9/11, military installations all across the country now have heightened security. However, Defense Department ordered budget cuts have led to empty guard houses at the entrances of the nation's largest national guard training site.

Fidel Sendra, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Wesley Medical Center. Dr. Sednra received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed residencies at Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, CT, University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL, and UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.

Military announces furloughs, Camp Shelby affected

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM)- THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE USA NATIONAL GUARD:

Maj. Gen. Augustus L. Collins, the adjutant general of Mississippi, announced military technician furlough plans today during a press briefing with members of the media.

Approximately 1,400 full-time Mississippi National Guard military technicians will be furloughed for 11 Mondays from July 8 to September 30. All employees have been notified and will take a 20 percent pay reduction.
