Fidel Sendra, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Wesley Medical Center. Dr. Sednra received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed residencies at Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, CT, University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL, and UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.

If you’re looking for a plant that is attractive now but looks its best in the cooler months, you may be interested in the Dianthus. This is a group of versatile flowering plants that look good year-round.

Dianthus is called by many names, but the common name “pink” really is a good description. Colors include pink and red, but there are also nice white and lavender selections.

If there is one herb my wife and I love to grow more than the rest, it has to be basil. There is nothing better for the hot months because it is gorgeous in the landscape and delicious in fresh summer meals.

Many of the gardeners I have talked to think we have taken basil growing to the extreme.

Military announces furloughs, Camp Shelby affected

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM)- THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE USA NATIONAL GUARD:

Maj. Gen. Augustus L. Collins, the adjutant general of Mississippi, announced military technician furlough plans today during a press briefing with members of the media.

Approximately 1,400 full-time Mississippi National Guard military technicians will be furloughed for 11 Mondays from July 8 to September 30. All employees have been notified and will take a 20 percent pay reduction.

Wesley Relay for Life Event Raises Over $16,000

In memory of Dr. Glenn Smith and in honor of all those battling cancer, Wesley Medical Center hosted “Light the Track,” a relay event held May 10, to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

“This is the second annual Light the Track event honoring Dr. Glenn Smith,” said Katherine Pittman, Director of Customer Service for Wesley Medical Center. “Last year we raised over $10,000 and we were thrilled top that this year.”
